For Christmas my family decided to forsake Sweet Home California this year and take a little trip to Maui instead… so far, no complaints.
Being the only state in the Union that actually grows coffee, I figured I’d better hit up the local plantation!
This is Ka’anapali Coffee Plantation…
…yeah. not a bad view.
Harvest is still happening so there were still some cherries left on the trees!
A wise ex-boss of mine (often) liked to re-tell this favorite fact: “Did YOU know- a coffee tree will only produce ONE pound of coffee beans a year on average??”.
Well. Did you?
Unfortunately the processing plant wasnt open to the public, and everyone who could have showed it to me was out for the holiday. Hopefully I’ll get one more chance to swing by there before I leave the island. But it was definitely worth the visit- I felt like a vintner seeing a vineyard for the first time! It was really magical to pick a cherry off the tree and pull it apart to see the little green beans inside. I even tried one… probably wouldnt make a scone out of it. But not bad!
“Eureka Underground”: Up and Running!!

Well, the wheels are turning. Thanks to my wonderful family, my temporary “underground” set up is up and functional!
